Kinugawa upgrade for a mild street S14a

By Tom on August 18, 2014

Matt made the trip up to PZP from the Mandurah/Rockingham area to get us to complete the turbo upgrade on his very clean SR20DET powered S14a Sivlia.

He had supplied a Kinugawa turbocharger that he had test fitted and we paired it up with a 6boost exhaust manifold and turbosmart 40mm external wastegate to get it all running smoothly and extract as much power as we could out of the relatively stock SR20.

Over the next two days, we had the wastegate flange TIG welded to the 6boost manifold, custom made some turbo coolant and oil hoses using Aeroflow braided lines and black fittings (as the kinugawa items weren’t positioned correctly for the job), reinstalled the tubrocharger and fabricated a new dump pipe, modified the front pipe and re-made the hotside intercooler piping to ensure there wouldn’t be any issues of hoses blowing off under higher boost conditions.

Matt already had the additional supporting modifications we recommend to go with the turbo upgrade, these consisted of a front mount intercooler, 3″ exhaust system, an upgraded bosch in-tank fuel pump, 550cc injectors, Z32 AFM, an electronic boost controller and PowerFC ECU.

So there it is, next stop dyno tune then hitting the streets. Stay tuned to our blog or check our youtube channel for the dyno results.
